Will VFS Global Support You?
This international commercial enterprise is said to work in partnership with Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) at the High Commission of Canada based in 123 different countries. According to their Pakistan website, VFS Global provides support services to people who are looking to apply for a Canadian visa. In doing so, VFS Global claims to manage visa application centers for citizenship and immigration staff. VFS Global also mentions that they are a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Kuoni Group, a public-listed tourism company headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland.
As noted above, VFS Global works hand-in-hand with the CIC, but there is no mention of any ICCRC members or affiliations on their website. This is partially due to their clause which states that they “do not play any part in or influence the outcome of [..] visa applications.” But if this is the case, what kind of ‘support services’ do they provide?
Under the ‘service and service charge’ tab on the VFS Global Pakistan website, they provide a detailed grid which contains a full list of all of their services which includes assistance in filling out a visa form, processing, photocopies, photography services and transport transmission among others. In this grid, they also display how much the client will be liable to pay for these services in CAD and PAK rupees (VAT included).
Since it has been recognized that VFSGlobal.ca does not have a RCIC member present, we have no idea who facilitates the assistance. In an online search to find any insights on this matter, we did uncover that this website is registered to a Rajesh Lokhande and that it was created in 2009. This information however contradicts the information on the homepage which states that VFS Global was established in 2001. Which is it then?
Regarding the actual content on the site, we once again appreciate that VFS Global are transparent on what it is that they do and don’t do. The VFS Global Pakistan site is very user-friendly with a step-by-step guide on how their services are set out as well as what the immigrant can expect from them. On their footer of the site, they offer information about the different visa types that immigrants could opt for and they also provide quick and useful links which could help the immigrant along the visa process.
Social Media & Online Reputation
VFS Global has several Facebook accounts and judging by the look and feel of each, none seem to be relevant or updated by them at all as most of the posts seem to be done by visitors. What concerns us is the alarming amount of bad reviews their service receives not only on social media, but also on several complaint websites. In one news report, it stated that VFS Global were under investigation for allegations of abuse of dominance in the visa support services market.
VFS Global have however lodged a reply to such allegations, denying that VFS has created a monopolistic situation, “as there are numerous other visa processing companies in the market”, and that their service fees are not unjustifiably high. “Service fees levied by VFS Global are approved by the client governments and form part of the tendering procedure. The level of service fee is based on various parameters as stipulated in the tender requirement and the country of operation,” said their representative.
VFS Global has built an internationally renowned corporation that is recognized in over 100 countries. By this statistic, we cannot deny that their services are not genuine. Since they are affiliated with the High Commission in most countries, we cannot fault them for not being regulated either even though they have not mentioned having an RCIC member on the websites that we have reviewed. We are concerned that despite their good website and testimonials, they still receive such a bad feedback and that they were even placed under investigation due to allegations of abuse.
